Early Childhood Program

Charis provides an innovative early childhood program for toddlers (2 years old), preschool, kindergarten A and kindergarten B (5 years old). This program is designed to prepare “life ready” children who grow to love learning at an early age. Learning is an exciting process of discovery! Our curriculum emphasizes the uniqueness and creativity of every child. Our students develop early learning skills based on the Montessori philosophy. Montessori is a system of education for young children that seeks to develop natural interests and activities rather than use formal teaching methods. In addition to reading and writing, our program emphasizes learning through all five senses so that our students will more naturally excel in science, athletics and arts. Children work in learning centers, and experience concrete lessons that match their abilities and interests under the guidance of trained teachers.

Elementary

Charis National Academy Elementary is in session from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm Monday through Friday. Our classrooms have a student-to-adult ratio of 8:1. With this exceptional ratio, students receive individual attention while having the advantage of group interactions. Grades 1-3 math and science are taught fully in English. This gives a strong academic English foundation to our students at a formational age. In grades 4-6 our students continue to advance in English, and Bahasa is also reintroduced. Charis classrooms are positive, fun and enjoyable. Students are encouraged to ask questions. They have discussions, share ideas, and work together to create presentations that help develop their self-confidence, leadership and critical thinking skills.

Teachers work with our students to make sure they understand class materials and develop new skills. Regular homework is designed to help students build learning habits, responsibility and time-management. The level of difficulty corresponds to the age of the students.

In addition to our more traditional academic program, Charis SD students also study art, music, physical education, learn computer software in the SD computer lab.

High School

The Charis Junior (SMP) and Senior (SMA) High Schools prepare our students to enter top level universities in Indonesia and abroad. Our SMA program instruction is 80% English. We emphasize the development of leadership, creativity and character. Receiving the torch from Charis Elementary, the SMP and SMA program continues to sharpen our students’ thinking skills, expand their knowledge base and empower them with higher level skills. Our classes are designed to prepare our students to respond with faith, wisdom and creativity to life’s challenges.

Charis offers an advanced math and science program with highly qualified, expert teachers. Our graduates are proficient in physics, biology and chemistry. In addition to our more traditional academic classes, Charis students are given the opportunity to study and practice in business, medicine, the arts, theater, music composition, orchestra, film making, design, computer programming, basketball and soccer. Each year, all grade 11 students participate in performing a Shakespeare Play. Charis offers a top flight science program, math classes and computer labs. High school students participate in planning the Charis Festival and Jazz Festival. Exciting field trips and mission trips enhance the experience of high school life. Student leadership (OSIS) is an exciting way for students to develop leadership skills.

Charis high school students learn how to innovate, solve problems and serve others. They learn to maintain sensitivity and empathy for others, and this generates a warm and nurturing learning environment for our students. Before they graduate from Charis, our students are equipped with TOEFL and Scientific Research Certification. Charis Alumni are currently studying in qualified Universities such as Brawijaya University, ITB, UPH, Atmajaya, Ciputra, Malaysia , University of Washington in Seattle, and Australia.
